[UPDATED]Patch 3.1: Ulduar Map, Argent Tournament

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

Ulduar Raid InstanceWith patch 3.1 comes Ulduar and the Argent Tournament. The Argent Tournament is a small map update in northern Icecrown above Sindragosa’s Fall.

Ulduar will be a big instance, to the left is a fast map export of the place the entrenance is on the bottom.

Argent Tournament will be added over the course of the weekend (adjusting somet things in the tile cutting progress to speed things up a bit) and the Argent Tournament will show up here. The new camp contains a tent for the Horde and once for the alliance, a simple training field, several tents that look like they are coming from the Darkmoon Faire. In the middle of it all is the foundation of the Coliseum.

Anyway enjoy the Ulduar map and the upcoming Argent Tournament update to the main map Cool.

UPDATE: rawrbitchrawr posted a more detailed map with bosses here.

[LIVE] New design & Upgraded backend

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

As you can see WyriMaps.net has recived a new design. The changes also come with new backend features.

The new design has been picked to give WyriMaps.net a fresh and shiny look rather then the rather boring default cakephp design. The new backend comes with a user/groups/session system (wich will be enabled for users once it has any use \"Wink\"), an API to talk with other sites/servers securely (the content will be encrypted every time a call is made). More details about that some other time when I created features people can using besides using the map.

Happy new year!

0.6.0 is going to be a awesome milstone version of WyriMaps.net since it will introduce dynamic markers. First the zone names will be done. There for some of the code needs to be adjusted to also allow text markers to be created. Anyway I’ll keep you posted :) .

[LIVE] 0.5.2 and akismet for comments

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

The past few days alot of spam comments where added to the WyriMaps blog posts. Also I fixed up the marker baloon problem.

The spam roblem has been solved by adding akismet support to the comment controller. (Like I use on WyriHaximus.net.) This will keep all spam out invisible for normal visitors. Kinda funny to see how fast spam finds your site to try to abuse. Version 0.5.2 adds a fix for the standaard marker baloon problem. Instead it pops a ExtJS window for it. Also the marker manager and JSON libs have been added to the core file to make everything load a bit faster.

[LIVE]Version 0.5.1 live

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

0.5.1 brings a simple load balancing system to spread the loading of the images over 2 servers and working markers that got broken in 0.5.0.

The spreading of tiles over 2 servers especialy should speed up fullscreen viewing of the map. The tiny maps used to WyriHaximus.net shouldn’t notice this speed update since they only have a few tiles to load. The way how var’s are stored and used also has changed in this new version to make sure browser problems are avoided more easely. 1 of those things was the marker problem. While the popup still doesn’t work it’s a step in the right direction.

[LIVE]Version 0.5.0 live

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

Last night I placed version 0.5.0 live. This version features the smaller marker images that where supposed to you live in version 4. It also includes several code and speed upgrades.

With version 0.5.0 the tiles are served from 2 different servers to easy the wyrimaps.net server and ensure faster loading of tiles. The code went from a procedural coding style to a class based style. This to make it more portable. The way markers are handled has also changed. 0.5.0 introduces way system to reuse makers so that the browser has less of them to handle on big large maps. Also adding them works with a timer to prevent the browser from locking up. Still playing with the settings of this but the settings that come with 0.5.0 won’t lockup your browser :) . Enjoy this release and comments should be ready by tomorrow.

Marker hotfix applied

Posted under Site News & Uncategorized

For some reason the new marker icon cause problems and is disabled for now.

Not sure why it happend (still looking into it but with this hotfix it doesn’t have priority) but after placing the normal marker back the problem was gone.

Going to see if there is a simple way of putting the new icon back on without this problem. Also the big coord bar on the upper right is not something I’m completely happy with. On screenshot pages like this one it looks to big. So I’m considering a version where only a link and a possible mail button are visible.
