Node Screen Preview

Posted under Development

The current live version of WyriMaps doesn’t have a way to change the nodes displayed on the map. Due to the Midsummer festival this feature was lower on the priority list. After that the work on a way to change what nodes to display started. Instead of dropdown menu WyriMaps used in the past a screen like the Share window is under development as we speak. It shouldn’t take to long to finish it only problems now are the window framework that might change to a more slick one since the current one has some problems in Chrome. All of the general nodes and herbs are added. Mining should follow pretty fast.

New version live

Posted under Site News

With the upcoming Midsummer Festival tomorrow the site has been upgraded to the new version. The new version comes with a wider array of supported devices, new share possibilities and a static map. While the site is still getting it’s tweaks it’s ready to provide a easy to use map with the Midsummer Festival bonfires for the upcoming week.

Static Maps preview

Posted under Development & Site News

With the new version of WyriMaps nearing it’s release I’ll show you one of it’s features. With static maps a portion of the map can easy be including in a blog or forum post. This static map is exactly like the ones Google offers but with our own tile layers. We’ll be using this feature in the upcoming share window with a set of predefine sizes. The preview only supports the map using latitude longitude coordinates but the final version will include nodes, in-game coordinates for the World of Warcraft map and the same fast delivery setup as the tiles.

A new blog, nginx and a new design

Posted under Site News

First of all welcome to the new blog for WyriMaps.net. In order to have more time and focus on the actual website I’ve setup a WordPress blog in order to do all the blogging on. The WyriMaps backend is undergoing big changes (ouf of sight for most people) to provide a more stable website.

Nginx is a very fast http server WyriMaps.net uses to serv it’s tile images. With the right tweaks it now serves the most popular files incredible fast almost instantly. In the near future not only the tiles but also the node information will be served from a subdomain to lower the load on the main domain. This results in more requests to handle for the nginx server but with the tuning and tweaking done it won’t be noticeable.

A new design is beeing developt in order to create a better recognizeable look acros the WyriMaps.net and WyriHaximus.net sites. But with it’s own look and feel, the new WyriMaps.net look is only party done as the footer is next and after that the background. After WyriHaximus.net the WyriMaps.net blog is the first to recieve this look.

Going more social. With all the new features planned like a twitter account and a facebook page alot of work has to be done. With the upcoming new version of WyriMaps it will be possible to tweet or share a place on the map directly with your friends. Be it via twitter, facebook, email, embed it on a forum it will all be there. As soon as a preview will be ready I’ll inform you :D !
